Building Virtual Pentesting Labs for Advanced Penetration Testing

Working with Continuous Delivery, or whatever the term de-jour is, is pretty interesting. I get to work with many different fields, sometimes not so obvious ones.

Although penetration testing isn't my primary field, I'm aquainted with it since production machines are an important concern for Continuous Delivery.

The Packt book, "Building Virtual Pentesting Labs for Advanced Penetration Testing" by Kevin Cardwell explores how you can use virtual machines to construct environments to practice penetration testing. This way you can emulate a company network, and see if you are able to crack it.

I have been using virtualization for many things over the years, but this particular idea was novel to me. The idea that you can in fact even virtualize things like Cisco-routers, was particularily novel.

So, since I learned things, I'm mostly positive.

I have some minor quibles though. The book is full of screenshots, that are obviously only there to make the text longer. For an E-book, that doesnt matter much, but it would have annoyed me if I had bought the dead tree version.

Other than that, it was a nice read.
