A Samsung 28" 4K LED 28D590D display with Fedora on Surface Pro 2
I got a new 4K display the other day, a Samsung 28" 4K LED 28D590D.
The screen is big as a barn, and has amazing 3840 x 2160 native resolution!
I use the screen with my Surface Pro 2 running Fedora, and of course I had issues getting the thing to work.
First of all I needes to set the screen to Displayport version 1.1 instead of 1.2, otherwise the screen is just black.
With Displayport 1.1 I only get 2560 x 1440, not the full 4k resolution.
https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/2014/2014q2-intel-graphics-stack-release seems to hint that you need very recent bits to get 4k. Of course.
http://dissociatedpress.net/the-4k-desktop-on-fedora/ mentions some tweaks.
Then I tried the Mini Displayport to HDMI cable I had, not expecting much, but the correct resolution was shown, and now I think it looks stunning!
But the HDMI port is supposed to be limitied to 30 hz at the 4K resolution, its still not to bad though.
Next I suppose I must wait for the required bits to hit Fedora before I can enjoy 4K at 60Hz refresh rate.
